Eating Meat Every Day
Excess animal protein makes it more difficult for nutrients like calcium to be absorbed by bones, increasing the risk of osteoporosis. To eat whole proteins you don’t need to eat meat every day. Choose white meat and fish before you choose red meat.
Excessive Boiling of Vegetables
One part of hydrosoluble vitamins (specifically vitamin C and vitamins in the B group) and some minerals are lost with excessive boiling. It is best to use little water, add the vegetables when the water begins to boil, and serve them as soon as they are done.
Drinking Wine With Your Salad
Excess alcohol reduces the absorption of folic acid found in vegetables, and folic acid deficiency could lead to anemia. In this case it’s best to skip the wine and opt for orange juice, which will help you better absorb the folic acid.
Ending an Iron-Rich Meal With Coffee
The tannins in coffee and tea make iron absorption more difficult. This mineral is essential to transport oxygen throughout the blood and to avoid fatigue. To have good iron absorption when you eat a plate of lentils, for example, always combine it with vitamin C. Sprinkle parsley onto the dish or have a kiwi for dessert.
Washing Eggs Excessively
Egg shells have a thin membrane that make them impermeable. Water can remove this protection which could lead to microorganisms leaking inside the eggs. Eggs and egg dishes could contain salmonella if they are not prepared correctly. Don’t wash them. The shell should never touch the inside of the egg. Don’t break it on the plate you’re using to whisk them in. And don’t use the shell to separate the yolk from the white.
